CRIME NEWS

  • A Middletown man faces more than a dozen charges including felony carjacking and kidnapping after he forcibly took a woman's vehicle north of Calistoga and led law enforcement on a chase.  Napa Valley Register

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Napa Valley State Parks Association will host its annual harvest dinner and auction at Bale Grist Mill State Historic Park on Sept. 20 to raise funds for restoring the historic mill—an effort aimed at preserving this local landmark.  Napa Valley Register
  • Napa native Frank Sanza spent more than ten years making his first feature film—The Short Game—and it will debut on screens nationwide.  Napa Valley Register

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Firefighters are gradually boxing in the Pickett Fire as Napa County officials prepare to assess its health effects on land—and water, marking the largest wildfire in five years.  Napa Valley Register

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Napa County and three other counties settled a lawsuit against a tax relief company that sent mailers made to look like government forms—prosecutors said the deceptive mailers misled customers.  Napa Valley Register
  • On August 26, the Napa County Board of Supervisors held a special meeting to ratify two emergency proclamations related to the Pickett Fire — one declaring a local emergency for unincorporated areas and another extending a health emergency to address hazardous debris and water risks. The board confirmed the resolutions from August 24 and August 25 and set the next meeting for September 9 at 9 a.m.  County of Napa
  • The city of Napa is launching a series of engagement efforts — it seeks resident input on future park improvements. The city will use feedback to guide planning changes for local parks.  Napa Valley Register
