About this event

Dr. Eyck Freymann argues that whether war happens between the U.S. and China depends on choices being made right now — in Washington, Beijing, and Taipei. In Defending Taiwan, Dr. Freymann presents the first integrated strategy to honorably deter war with China over Taiwan. Drawing on rare Chinese sources, cutting-edge military and economic analysis, and deep historical research, Freymann argues that Washington's deterrence strategy must extend beyond conventional military power. America must work with allies to develop a bold new vision of statecraft and a plan to secure its interests if deterrence fails. We examine the core question - Why does Taiwan, an island of 23 million people, sit at the center of the world's most dangerous rivalry, and how can we deter China without provoking it?
