About this event

Professor Paul Steward presents a lecture and discussion of Native American history from ancient times to contemporary, with a focus on Sonoma County peoples' perspective. Paul Steward is an accomplished educator, professional musician, and enrolled tribal member of the Elem Indian Colony of Pomo Indians. Serving as a Lecturer in Native American and American Indian Studies at San Francisco State University and Sonoma State University since 2016, he specializes in California Indian history, culture, and tribal relations. Parallel to his academic career, Steward is a celebrated singer, songwriter, and guitarist with over 20 years of professional experience. By uniquely blending traditional Pomo rhythms, language, and instruments with modern blues and soul, his work creates a vital cultural bridge that has earned him prestigious accolades, including the Native American Music Awards and recognition as a Yerba Buena Center for the Arts honoree.
