About this event
This holiday season, Spreckels Theatre Company offers a heartwarming alternative to traditional seasonal fare with Rooted, a story about the messy, fierce love that keeps us grounded. An intelligent, gentle comedy by Deborah Zoe Laufer, Rooted plays Nov. 27 – Dec.13!
Emery is perfectly content living in her beloved treehouse, completely isolated from the world, communing with her plants. Meanwhile, down on the ground, her sister Hazel is thoroughly miserable, slaving away at a dead-end diner job just to survive and financially support Emery’s eccentric lifestyle. Looking on from the sidelines, Luanne is yearning for something, anything to bring true meaning into her life.
The sisters' fragile ecosystem is completely upended when Emery’s YouTube videos documenting her plant experiments unexpectedly go viral. Almost overnight, her digital musings accidentally incite a full-blown CULT(!). As throngs of devoted truth-seekers congregate below the treehouse, the lives of all three women are plunged into chaos, compelling each woman to choose their own path and find their bliss.
